This is solely my opinion, however I'd say that if the async methods you might be calling all make stronger cancellation, then yours should. In a identical vein, if you are developing an awaitable API over a naturally-asynchronous operation, then do your very best to enhance cancellation (e.g., by the use of CancellationToken.Register).
I'd additionally say that any (synchronous) CPU-bound manner that might take a "long time" should follow a cancellation token periodically (CancellationToken.ThrowIfCancellationRequested). "Long time" is relative, but as a tough tenet I'd say anything over half a 2nd (on older hardware, now not our 8-core dev machines ;).
In every other state of affairs, you're talking about a a lot less useful form of cancellation - particularly, the cancellation would possibly take an arbitrary amount of time to take impact. E.g., if some async strategies reinforce it but others do not. I'm not certain how useful a cancellation token parameter could be if that's the case; you could need to put it in, but make sure to file its boundaries.
